Want to live longer and be happier in your retirement years? How about ideas to plan meaningful New Year’s resolutions? Tis the season to hear from Brad Bickford, Licensed Clinical Social Worker, father, husband, and retiree. He teaches “Living Healthier and Happier in Retirement” for American University's adult ed program. He will talk about the steps that are essential to achieving senior wellness and happiness by paying attention to dietary, emotional, psychological, physical, relationship, and spiritual areas. Find out about the essential role that play/laughter has on our well-being and longevity.

Learn such things as what you need to do to keep your brain healthy and to slow down possible dementia. Bickford will describe fascinating gender differences, such as who only uses half the brain to hear; why women shouldn't drink as much water as men while running marathons; whose health costs are greater – men or women; and why men take longer to digest food than women, causing reactions to food and medications. Learn why certain outdoor bacteria are good for you and more. Then, join a lively Q&A at the end of Encore Learning’s final 2019 event at Central Library.

Directions: The Arlington Central Library is located at 1015 N. Quincy Street between Washington Boulevard and Fairfax Drive. Parking is free at the library, which is midway between the Virginia Square and Ballston Metro Stations on the Orange and Silver lines. Join us in the first floor auditorium.
